My blog (Semi-Literate Rants) has moved to http://www.triclinic/blog/.

I am a postdoctoral research associate in the Dept. of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics at the University of Virginia. I'm interested in macromolecular structure determination by means of x-ray crystallography. I'm currently working in the lab of Dr. Wladek Minor, developing an expert system for tracking and analyzing crystallization experiments for structural genomics. I've also solved several structures, including that of the HD-domain deoxynucleotidase YfbR, and have co-authored some bioinformatic analyses of the PDB.

I grew up just outside of Johnstown, PA. I attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA, graduating cum laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry in May of 1998. I did research as an undergraduate both at Juniata and at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. I received my Ph.D. at the University of Virginia in October of 2008. I've attended many meetings, and frequently travel to the Advanced Photon Source to collect data.

I'm proud to be a geek-- I've switched to GNU/Linux, I'm a fair Perl hacker and I have several years experience administrating Linux and Windows systems in the lab and at home. I've been involved with the Wesley Foundation, the University's United Methodist student group, and I am a member of Wesley Memorial U.M.C. next door. I also run (slowly), hike (even slower), write (bad) fiction, sing (actually, pretty well), and watch more television than I care to admit.

I currently live in Charlottesville, VA.
